How do Surgeons wash their Hands before Surgery?🫧🧼

🧴Handwashing is more than just a routine- it’s a powerful practise that can save lives.

🫧Today is Global Handwashing day and it serves as a reminder how something as simple as soap and water can prevent the spread of deadly diseases.

🦠Everyday, we unknowingly come on contact with bacteria and viruses that can cause infections like the flu, food-borne illnesses, and even life threatening diseases.

👩🏻‍⚕️Did you know? Surgeons scrub their hands for atleast 5 full minutes before surgery because even the smallest trace of bacteria can mean the difference between life and death for a patient.

But it’s not just about operating rooms- it applies for all of us.

🍽️Wash your hands before eating.
🚻Wash your hands after using the restroom.
🧼Wash your hands after returning back home.

It’s a simple act with profound consequences of health, safety and responsibility.

I wish the tap was closed while washing hands 😅

those are automatic taps, which can also be controlled by the foot. the surgeon can’t touch any taps or else the sterility will be broken and they’ll have to scrub in again
it is more important for the surgeon to maintain sterility than be worried about wasting water. even the slightest break of sterility will be a lifelong misery to the patient and can result in anything from a minor surgical sight infection to full blown sepis and death. the infection will also hamper the wound healing and it will take longer time for the patient to recover
